Please join Rachel Wallis, soprano, and Sydney Sterrett, piano, for an hourlong recital celebrating a lifetime of Queer love, from childhood crushes and leaving home to building your chosen family. With hidden gems pulled from deep in the American Songbook and classics you’ve heard a million times, let’s get together to celebrate a space where Queer people have always—and will always—belong: the world of musical theatre.
Rachel and Sydney met in law school where they performed in law-themed parody musicals together. They bonded over their music-filled upbringings, and the rest is history. Rachel is a classically trained singer who moved to Austin after graduating from the music conservatory at the Chicago College of Performing Arts. After a lifetime of opera, she’s loved spending the past few years singing in Austin’s amazing choirs, dipping her toes into other genres, and finally, presenting her first solo show to all of you!
As soon as Sydney could read, she started playing the piano, knowing that when words fail, sometimes music could fill in the gaps. Though her day job as an assistant district attorney pays the bills, from law school to now, she’s always found a way to carve out a place for connecting with people through music. She finds no greater joy than sharing our stories, history, and emotions through song and can always find a tune for any occasion.
Rachel and Sydney will also be joined by their dear friend, tenor Graeson Lynskey, for a special duet!
All donations benefit Rainbow Connections ATX, supporting intergenerational queer community in Austin.
